Blog #1: Getting Started with Cake Sickles Hi guys, my name is Autumn, and this is my first time blogging! Today, we are going to go over the ingredients and supplies needed to make cake sickles. The first step is to gather your ingredients. Start with any boxed cake mix you would like. Follow the instructions on the box and bake your cake. You may also add special ingredients when making your cake, like vanilla extract, sour cream, or an extra egg yolk. Feel free to add what you want, or simply make it as directed. Materials Needed Baking Supplies: A 9×8 cake pan, non-stick spray, and parchment paper. Decoration & Assembly: A dipping mug, almond bark, popsicle sticks, and food coloring. Storage: Twist ties, zip-lock bags, and space in your refrigerator or freezer. In the next blog post, we will discuss the frosting vs. steaming methods, forming the mold, dipping, and storing your cake sickles. See you next time!
Blog #2: Making and Dipping Cake Sickles
Hey guys, welcome back! We left off on gathering the ingredients and supplies needed for the cake sickles. Now that we have the supplies ready to get started, let’s dive in.
After you have followed the instructions for baking the cake, you are going to bind the cake together. I used the steam method, which involves taking your cake right out of the oven, placing it into a mixer, and letting the steam from the cake bind it into a dough-like consistency at medium speed. This is just one method you can use for binding. Some other methods include mixing frosting or cream cheese into your baked cake. Whichever method you choose is completely up to you!
When your cake has reached a dough-like consistency, it is time to prep your cake sickle molds. Press the mixture into the molds and insert the popsicle sticks.
Next, prepare your chocolate dip by combining almond bark and coconut oil. Once their form is shaped and set, dip your cake sickles into the melted mixture and place them on parchment paper to dry.
Storage Tips
Short-term storage: You can place them into clear bags and secure them with twist ties.
Freezing: To freeze, place parchment paper down in a sealable container with cardboard between the layers. This helps keep out moisture and freezes them evenly.
If you decide to freeze them, you will need to leave them out on the counter at room temperature for 12 hours to defrost before serving.
I hope you enjoyed making your cake sickles as much as I have. Thank you, and be sure to follow for more blogs!
